About Orikum:

Orikum is a good mix of ancient and modern
You can get most things here or in Vlora 17 KM north
The area has layer upon layer of history, an archaeological park, at the foot of the lagoon – a rare Byzantine church , as well as the Pashaleman naval base where the Russians kept their submarines during the Hoxha regime.
The area has some wonderful walks.
You can easily reach Orikum now the roads are improved.
It is a fascinating 2 hour car or bus ride from the capital Tirana (BA have regular flights ) or by far the most interesting is the spectacular coastal route from Saranda .
You can take a cheap easyjet to Corfu for a few days then catch the ferry across the Albanian straits to the bus from Saranda, it only takes 45 minutes across the water.
There is also a daily overnight ferry from Brindisi to Vlore which is only half an hours drive from Orikum.
